Transition 2023

We are delighted that you have been offered a place at Dixons Newall Green Academy and we look forward to welcoming the Class of 2028 and their families into our academy. Over the coming months, we will get to know students and their families through a variety of events and activities. Through this process, we will discover what will help each and every student be successful during their time at Dixons Newall Green and to achieve our academy sentence for them during their time with us.

"The academy ensured that all students succeeded at university, or a real alternative, and lived a fulfilling life."

We aim to make the transition process for students as seamless as possible and to support this we have several events that will take place in the near future including:

  • Transition Evening 1: Tuesday 6 June (4.30pm - 6.30pm) – this evening is designed to help families and students prepare for the new academic year.

As our academy is still under construction, we will be holding this event at Dixons Brooklands Academy. This induction will help families understand our standards and approach, so we can ensure that your child gets the most out of the opportunities we will provide at Dixons Newall Green.

There will be a presentation commencing at 5pm, followed by an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Further details regarding the school’s operations, application packs and family handbook will be provided at the transition evening.

  • Transition Evening 2: Tuesday 27 June (4.30pm - 6.30pm) – in continuation of our previous transition evening, there will be a second transition evening. During this event, we will provide detailed information regarding the induction day, distribute permission slips and policies, and issue a uniform voucher for purchasing the school uniform. This will take place at Dixons Brooklands Academy due to our academy still being under construction.

Additionally, it is mandatory to schedule a home visit as part of the induction process. These visits play a crucial role in enabling us to establish a personal connection with each of our students. To arrange a home visit, please use the link provided in the letter we sent to you. If you did not receive this letter, please contact us.

  • Transition Day: Wednesday 5 July - on this day, we invite all year 6 students who are joining us in September to come and spend the day with us at the newly built Engineering Building A and B - The University of Manchester. This is an exciting opportunity to start our journey with students at the top of our mountain. Students will have an opportunity to take a tour the university and to participate in a number of workshops with our staff. We hope to alleviate any anxiety students might have about starting in September and to create opportunities for students to form new friendships and relationships.
  • Additional Transition Days – We also hold additional transition days for students who require extra support. These days are designed for students who have a heightened sense of anxiety about commencing secondary school and students who require additional support with the new structure and procedures of a secondary school environment. If you / your child feels an additional transition day is required, please contact us by emailing the school.
  • Primary School Visits (week beginning 5 June)- A member of the Dixons Senior Leadership Team will visit the primary schools to speak to students coming to Dixons Newall Green in September and to their year 6 teachers. Primary schools will have an opportunity to share key information about their students. This information will be used to support transition as students move up in September.
