Transition information
We are delighted that you have been offered a place at Dixons Newall Green and we look forward to welcoming the class of 2030 and their families into our academy. Over the coming months, we will get to know students and their families through a variety of events and activities. Through this process, we will discover what will help each and every student be successful during their time at Dixons Newall Green and to achieve our mission for them during their time with us.
At Dixons Newall Green, we have many minds but one mission; to ensure that all students succeed at university or a real alternative and live a fulfilling life.
We aim to make the transition process for students as seamless as possible and to support this we have several events that will take place in the near future including:
Primary school visits (week beginning 19 May)- A member of the Dixons team will visit the primary schools to speak to students coming to Dixons Newall Green in September and to their year 6 teacher. Primary schools will have an opportunity to share key information about their students. This information will be used to support transition as students move up in September.
Transition Tours: Parents are invited to attend a short tour of the temporary building to see some of our routines such as Line Ups and Morning Meeting- These dates are Wed 21 May, Wed 11 June or Wed 25 June from 8:00-9:00. Families interested in attending should contact the school to book a slot.
Admission Pack Support Drop Ins- Each family will be sent an admissions pack with information and forms that will need completing. We will be holding drop-in sessions to provide parents with support for completing the admission pack and applications for Free School Meals (FSM). Just come along at the times below with your admission pack and we will provide support.
Wednesday 4th June 15:30-17:00
Monday 9th June 15:30-17:00
Transition Evening: Wednesday 2 July 18:00- 19:30 – This evening is designed to help year 6 families to prepare for the new academic year by providing information about the school and key policies. Admissions packs will be sent out at the end of May and these should be returned with families on Transition evening. Once completed packs have been fully completed and handed in, families will be issued with a £25 uniform voucher. There is also the opportunity to meet key members of staff such as the Senior Leadership Team.
Transition Day: Thursday 3 July 12:45- 15:30 - On this day, we invite all year 6 students who are joining us in September to come and spend the afternoon with us. Due to ongoing preparations for the opening of our new school building, we currently have limited space and are unable to accommodate all incoming students for a full day. As a result, we will be hosting our Transition Day on a reduced schedule. During the afternoon students will have an opportunity participate in a number of workshops. We hope to alleviate any anxiety students might have about starting in September and to create opportunities for students to form new friendships and meet some of their new teachers. Students should arrive at the Academy from 12:45 and the day will finish at 15:30. Students will be provided with a lunch. Students should wear their primary school PE kits for the day as they may be taking part in PE sessions. Year 6 students will be required to make their own way to and from the Academy for this session. Further details will be sent out with the admissions packs.
Start Date: September 8th. Students in year 7 can access Breakfast Club from 7:50 and all students must arrive ready for line up at 8:10.
