Posted 25th June 2025
Award winning film maker and writer, Matt Dickinson, joined the staff and students of Dixons Newall Green to celebrate, ‘Climb Your Mountain’ week. Sharing stories of his adventures, climbing to the summit of Mount Everest, filming in Antarctica and crossing the Sahara Desert, Dickinson motivated students to meet the challenge. Having worked for notable organisations, including the National Geographic TV, Discovery Channel and the BBC, Dickinson had lots of stories to share, inspiring budding explorers, writers and filmmakers.
Dickinson also writes fiction for teenagers. His book ‘The Everest Files’ was shortlisted for the Trinity School Book Awards 2016 and nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal 2015. Throughout the day, students enjoyed participating in workshops, where Dickinson shared his top tips for writing successful stories.
