Forum Library Visit

Posted 7th July 2025

Throughout June, students in Y7 have been walking the mile down the road to visit Wythenshawe’s Forum Library.

Reading is a cornerstone of every child’s education. It enhances vocabulary, strengthens writing skills, sparks imagination, and fosters a deeper understanding of the world. Both at home and at school, regular reading is key to helping children grow into confident, capable learners across all subjects.

At Dixons Newall Green, we place a strong emphasis on reading because we understand its impact: a child who cannot read fluently is unlikely to thrive academically across the curriculum. That’s why our ambition is to cultivate a rich and vibrant reading culture within our Dixons Newall Green community—ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.

The trip has given students a wonderful chance to encourage a love of reading, introduce new genres, and inspire curiosity through books.

Students were also given the chance to visit the library’s first floor Creative Space. This area has a podcast studio, interactive classroom and stage area. The helpful staff allowed students to play instruments and experiment with the recording equipment. Students were also treated to some drama games by the library’s resident theatre group.

Forum Library is a great space for students to hang out at the weekend. The library offers many fun clubs including a drama club and Rock Band. Following our visit, students have made the journey independently at the weekend. One students said, ‘It’s great! I even made new friends.’
